Led parliamentary debate and events to celebrate LGBT History Month

Parliamentary campaign forcing the Government to support the Istanbul Convention to tackle violence against women and girls

Secured funding from the Minister for Women and Equalities to fund the revenge porn helpline

Led a campaign demanding the Government take action to prevent maternity discrimination which was adopted in the Labour Manifesto

Gave a parliamentary speech defending the rights of women and men to wear clothing that expresses their faith

My campaign for mandatory relationships and sex education in every school receives Royal Assent and becomes law

Co-ordinated and wrote the women and equalities section of the Labour Party General Election manifesto and embedded gender auditing to all of our policies

Started an ongoing campaign to overhaul the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority so that victims and survivors of child sexual exploitation and abuse are not unfairly barred from applying

Presented a petition to urge the Government to hold a public inquiry into the ‘battle of Orgreave.’

Campaigned for the Government to take action to protect the Rohingya people by pressuring the Burmese Government

Challenged Secretary of State on why the Government had cut funding for English tuition for speakers of other languages

Urged Home Secretary to commit extra resources to police so that they can prosecute child abuse

Maintained pressure on Government, including parliamentary speech, to progress a sector deal for steel

2018

Hosted a debate, and gave a speech, on Palestinian children under detention

Gave a Parliamentary speech calling for increased school funding to Rotherham

Gave a Parliamentary speech demanding more Government action to promote social mobility in Rotherham

Challenged the Government to ratify the ‘Lanzarote Convention’ – which requires countries to prevent British sex offenders from travelling abroad to abuse children

Hosted a debate, and gave a speech, on the urgent need to end the demand for prostitution by criminalising the purchase of sex

Parliamentary speech on Stalking Protection Bill calling on Government to issue new guidance to criminal justice agencies so that there is a consistent, national approach to stalking

Demanded Minister to improve funding to specialist sexual violence and abuse services so that services like Rotherham Abuse Counselling Service are able to support as many survivors as possible

Gave a speech during the Autumn Budget debate on the cost of violence against women and girls in Rotherham, £32.7m per annum. Demanded the Government fund sexual violence and abuse services and criminal justice agencies to ensure perpetrators are successfully caught and prosecuted

Launched my report, and subsequent campaign, into the lack of funding for sexual violence and abuse services

Lobbied Home Office to introduce statutory support for adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse

Meeting with Communities and Local Government Secretary to challenge Government over lack of funding for Rotherham Council

Gave a speech on the need for the Government to improve regulations so that children are protected from viewing pornography online

2019

Parliamentary speech on leaving the EU and the need for the Government to protect worker, environmental and equality rights as part of the Withdrawal Agreement

Hosted a debate, and gave a speech, on the need for increased funding for children’s social care in Rotherham

Success in my campaign for more funding for sexual violence and abuse services as Government announces a 10% increase for the forthcoming funding round

Continued my campaign against Female Genital Mutilation

Launched my report on adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse and the issues they face on securing justice and support

Campaigned against public health cuts focusing on the importance of sexual health clinics and the urgent need to fund services for survivors of sexual violence and abuse

Met with Chief Secretary to the Treasury argue for prioritise funding for support services for survivors of child sexual abuse in the Spending Review

Hosted a debate, and gave a speech, on the lack of support and information available for adult survivors of child sexual abuse and pushed the Government to accept the recommendations of my six month inquiry

Started a campaign, including meeting Justice Minister, to extend legislation defining ‘positions of trust’ so that sports coaches and religious figures are covered by child protection legislation

Gave a speech on the need to change the law on prostitution to tackle the sexual exploitation of women and girls

Launched my report on adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse and their experience of police and the Crown Prosecution Service

Success in my campaign as Government set out plans for a ‘pledge card’ for police to give victims setting out their rights and entitlements

Gave a speech in Parliament on the importance of steel to Rotherham and the British economy and the need for the Government to act to protect jobs

Asked Home Office Minister Victoria Atkins to change the law on pre-charge bail to protect victims of domestic and sexual abuse from perpetrators

Presented a petition of Rotherham residents to stop the Droppingwell Tip

Success in my campaign for funding for sexual violence and abuse services as Government commits further £5m to £24m announced in March

Parliamentary speech on the importance of LGBT-inclusive relationships and sex education

Successful secured a Government review of the all-lane running scheme on the M1, after supporting the campaign of Claire Mercer, whose husband Jason tragically died because as a result of the failed scheme.

Launched my report on adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse and their experience of court and applying for compensation

Gave a speech, during Baby Loss Awareness week, on the need for trained paediatric nurses and funding for children’s hospices

Lobbied Home Secretary to criminalise child marriage in the UK
